Rae Cosmetics

The Rae cosmetics team was excellent! They did a beautiful job on me, the bridesmaids and moms! They were also very fleixble with a last minute change in plans, and were willing to come on location to do our makeup!

Aubree did my wedding makeup and I got so many compliments! I normally wear very understated makeup, and the look she gave me provided the extra polish and drama I wanted for my wedding while still looking "like me". The products she used were very flattering and stayed put through a long evening of dancing.

Rochelle did my hair and makeup for my wedding and I was SO impressed with it. I got dressed in a room with no AC, walked 1/8 mi in the hot, muggy afternoon weather, and danced for 3 hours in an only-slightly-air-conditioned room, and my makeup looked just as amazing as it had when she did it seven hours earlier.

I definitely recommend the dry run...I almost didn't do it because they charge the same amount for a dry run as they do for the actual day. We went with a darker make-up (I was cool with that...curious what it would look like) but it ended up looking really bad on me as the day went on (not their fault...I just don't look good in dark make-up). On the day of my wedding, I was able to give more detailed instructions. I had to request that some things be redone since their version of 'natural' is different from mine. :) Overall the make-up held up well all day and very little touch-up was required.

Rae Cosmetics is a bit pricier, and I didn't realize that because I was new to Austin. Now that I have had my hair and makeup done for other weddings and events, I know that. I was also a little disappointed that I paid $150 for a practice do, and when it came time to do my hair for the day of the wedding, the girl didn't seem to have any recollection of the practice.

I went to Rochelle Rae salon back on August 16, 2007 to confirm and pay for a deposit for my bridal hair and makeup session on Oct. 14, 2007. I have all of my correspondence emails. At the salon on Aug. 16, I did a consultation with my hairstylist Rafael (and he did a mini-sample updo) and met the owner Rochelle Rae and my makeup person April Monroe. I also paid my deposit that day to hold my space for Oct. 14 at 10am. On Oct. 13 (one day before my wedding), I called the salon to confirm my 10am appointment. Then, on Oct. 14, I showed up at the salon at 9:45am and waited...and waited...and waited, leaving 3 messages at the business. The salon was closed, and no one showed up. What stress on my wedding day! I had to call approx 20 salons to try and get an emergency appointment right then and there for bridal hair and makeup. Later that day when I arrived at my wedding, I learned that my wedding coordinator had called the salon earlier that week also to confirm my appointment. When April (the makeup person) finally called me a couple of hours later, she said that she had no record of the appointment and that the last email she saw was that I was coming in to talk to her and that she didn't receive a deposit from me. I paid the deposit to her, and I have the email chains and the deposit receipts so this doesn't make sense. She said that she was sorry and would refund my deposit. A little later, Rochelle (the owner) called to apologize and said that she would personally do my make-up (too late...already ruined my wedding day) and refund my deposit. When I returned from my honeymoon, I checked my credit card balance on Oct. 23 (9 days later) and I still HAD NOT received a refund of my deposit. I wrote a letter to the BBB that night, and then only after that received an apology letter and a refund of my deposit. Terrible service!

She is great at what she does. I believe the prices are a bit high, but me and all my ladies looked beautiful!
